Dr. Nancy A. Bernardino is the Associate Superintendent of Region Five Schools at the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). She assumed this role in October 2023, overseeing 41 schools, including various magnet and transformation schools, and is involved with the Office of Transformation and Innovation.14
Educational Background and Career
Dr. Bernardino has a robust educational background, holding multiple degrees from Southern Methodist University, including a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, as well as a Master of Education from Texas A&M Commerce. Her career in education spans several roles, including her notable position as the founding principal of Solar Preparatory School for Girls from 2016 to 2020, where she focused on creating innovative educational experiences.12
Prior to her role at Solar Prep, she was the principal of John Quincy Adams Elementary, leading the school to achieve the highest state designations and multiple distinctions.1 Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including recognition as Dallas ISD Principal of the Year in 2019 and being named one of D Magazine's "Women Making Dallas Great" in 2021.13
Community Engagement and Leadership
Dr. Bernardino is actively involved in her community, serving as a trustee for The Hockaday School and participating in the 2024 Dallas City Charter Commission. She is also the past president of the Association of Hispanic School Administrators, advocating for increased Latino representation in school leadership.13 Her commitment to education and community service has made her a prominent figure in Dallas's educational landscape.
