Muffadal Saylawala

Muffadal Saylawala is a social innovator and entrepreneur currently serving as a Fellow at Day One since July 2022. He is also the Founder and CEO of Oro Chocolate and the Casa Oro Group, both of which focus on sustainable practices and community development in Nicaragua.

Background and Education

Saylawala holds dual degrees in Finance and Accountancy from the University of Illinois. His career began in corporate consulting, where he worked with major mortgage banks before transitioning to entrepreneurship. He has co-founded several startups in the social enterprise sector and has extensive international experience, having worked, studied, and traveled to over 50 countries.

Professional Experience

• Oro Chocolate: Founded in January 2019, this venture produces fine chocolate using sustainable agro-forestry techniques, emphasizing local community development.

• Casa Oro Group: Established in October 2014, this organization comprises multiple businesses aimed at service and regeneration, employing over 60 people across various units.

In addition to his entrepreneurial efforts, Saylawala has a strong background in human-centered design, financial analytics, and community organizing, which he applies to create impactful business ventures.1
