Mike Garland is the Chief Executive Officer of Pattern Energy and Pattern Development, positions he has held since co-founding Pattern Energy Group in 2009. He is primarily involved in corporate and industry strategy, capital formation, market and project selection, corporate performance, and corporate culture. Mike is located in the San Francisco office.
With over 30 years of experience, Mike has been dedicated to developing, constructing, managing, and investing in energy and infrastructure projects globally. He closed his first wind project financing in 1989 and has since overseen nearly 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects worldwide and nearly $50 billion of infrastructure assets.
Prior to his current role, Mike served as a partner at Babcock & Brown from 1986 to 2009, where he led the North American Infrastructure Group. His responsibilities included project finance activities, energy project development and investment, and energy and infrastructure funds management for institutional investors. Mike also held the position of Chief of Energy Assessments at the State of California from 1975 to 1986.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mike and his wife Gigi are the co-founders of The Bay School, a technology and ethics-focused high school in San Francisco. They actively support the Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley and the Medical School at the University of Washington. Additionally, Mike serves as a Trustee of the University of California, Berkeley Foundation.
