Michael Gourlay

Michael Gourlay is an experienced insurance professional currently serving as the Non Executive Chairman of QBE Asia and the Chairman of the QBE Asia Advisory Board.12 He has over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, working in executive positions with companies such as Aviva and MSIG, primarily in Asia but also in London, Bermuda, and New Zealand.1

In his current role, Gourlay provides leadership oversight of QBE Asia, ensures governance, and maintains strong connections with country boards.24 He was appointed to this position in January 2020.24

Prior to his current role at QBE, Gourlay held several key positions in the insurance sector:

1. Director and CEO of MSIG Insurance (Singapore)
2. Regional Head of Broker and Bancassurance Distribution at MSIG
3. Executive Vice President at MSIG Holdings (Asia) Pte Ltd
4. Various roles including General Manager, Country Manager, and Regional Manager at companies such as NZI, GA, CGU, and Aviva

Gourlay's expertise spans across retail, wholesale, and property and casualty insurance markets. He has been instrumental in driving digital transformation in the insurance business and has deep networks across the Asia-Pacific region.34

In addition to his role at QBE, Gourlay acts as an independent director and advisor to insurers and insurtech companies, focusing on innovation through digitalization, business performance improvement, and mergers and acquisitions.1
