    Michael S. Braasch (September 2, 1966 – September 22, 2024) was an American scientist and professor specializing in GPS navigation and aviation systems.124 He held the Thomas Professorship in the Ohio University School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was a Principal Investigator with the Ohio University Avionics Engineering Center (AEC).1

    Braasch obtained his B.S. (1988), M.S. (1989), and Ph.D. (1992) in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University.12 He joined the faculty at Ohio University in 1994, where he taught courses in GPS receiver design and supervised numerous master's theses and Ph.D. dissertations.15

    Braasch was internationally recognized for his work in:

    Braasch was a devout Christian, a member of Athens Bible Church, and occasionally gave guest sermons.2 He enjoyed singing, playing guitar, hiking, and traveling with his family.2 Braasch was also a licensed professional engineer in Ohio and an instrument-rated commercial pilot with an additional rating in helicopters.1

    In February 2024, Braasch retired from Ohio University after 30 years of service and joined Northrop Grumman as a consulting engineer.2 He passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 58, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.2
