Michael Balfour is a prominent figure in the research field of the social applications of theatre. His extensive work includes delving into arts-based initiatives with returning veterans, performances in areas affected by war and conflict, as well as performing arts practices within prisons, correctional facilities, and alongside newly arrived refugees in Australia. With a solid academic background, Michael pursued a PhD in Prison Theatre at Lancaster University and completed his BA (Hons) in Theatre at the University of Ulster. He has held key positions in various esteemed institutions like serving as the Head of School at UNSW, a Professor at Griffith University, and as a Senior Lecturer at both the University of Exeter and the University of Winchester.
