Originally a military dependent from San Diego, California, Mercedes's educational journey led her to earn a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of North Texas and pursue a Masters in Public Administration/Public Policy at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Throughout her career, Mercedes has held various roles, including Texas State Coordinator at Local Progress Center for Popular Democracy, Special Assistant to the President at Paul Quinn College, Civic Engagement and Advocacy Associate at People For the American Way, and more.
