Max Kanwal
Max Kanwal is a PhD student at Stanford University, where he is pursuing research in artificial intelligence, theoretical neuroscience, and neuroengineering.2 He graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Mathematics.1
Kanwal's scientific research interests focus on developing a common theoretical framework to understand both natural and artificial intelligence, with the goal of advancing brain-AI interfacing technologies.1 He has worked internationally with AI researchers, experimental neuroscientists, complexity theorists, and biologically inspired engineers across nine different research institutions.1
In addition to his academic pursuits, Kanwal has held several research internships and fellowships, including at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Université de Montréal, Stanford University, and Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences. He was also a former AI Summer Fellow Program member at Machine Intelligence Research Institute and CTSP Fellow at Center for Technology, Society & Policy.
Kanwal has honed his skills in areas such as data analysis, machine learning, computer vision, neural networks, and artificial intelligence applications. He has also been on the teaching staff at the University of California, Berkeley, as an instructor and has worked in various research roles at major organizations such as SpaceX and MITRE.
In his free time, Kanwal enjoys sports like basketball, tennis, and weightlifting, and practices meditation, aikido, tai chi, yoga, and improv.1 He is also interested in brain-computer interfaces (BCI), meditation/enlightenment, psychedelics, film, acting, moral/political philosophy, and more.3
