Matthew Trentacoste

Research Generalist. Constantly curious.

Matthew Trentacoste is a scientist, engineer, photographer, and motorcyclist with a passion for psychology and philosophy. He studied computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and The University of British Columbia, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree, and almost completed a PhD.

Matt's professional journey began at BrightSide Technologies, where he was a Principle Software Researcher. He then worked as a research engineer at Dolby and as a computer scientist for Adobe. In between, he was a freelancer for Mobify and developed software for Pocket Pixels Inc. He also worked as a culinary data scientist for Sprig and as a data science community founding member for Greylock Partners. Currently, Matt is a research scientist for Facebook and a former data science consultant for Figma.

Matt is passionate about studying how customers interact with the menu of a large on-demand restaurant. His work revolves around solving computer science problems that help people eat less junk food. He enjoys exploring how our minds create the world we experience and developing high-end displays that enhance our perception of brightness & contrast. He has a background in human visual perception, including how image appearance changes with size. Matt's minimalism and love for movement have instilled a vagabond spirit within him. Some of his happiest times were spent living out of a backpack. He is a skilled cook with experience as a cyclist, martial artist, and powerlifter.
