Matthew Thompson

Matthew Thompson is the Aquaculture Project Lead at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium, a position he has held since October 2013. He has over a decade of experience in aquaculture, having previously served as a Senior Aquaculture Specialist at the New England Aquarium from February 2007 to October 2013. His work primarily focuses on advancing environmental responsibility in seafood sourcing and aquaculture practices, collaborating with industry partners to promote sustainable seafood initiatives.123

Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science from the University of Southampton and a Master's Degree in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling. His expertise includes coordinating aquaculture improvement projects, developing sustainability metrics, and consulting with seafood buyers on responsible sourcing strategies.13 He has also engaged in international site visits to assess aquaculture operations and promote best practices in sustainability across various countries.2
