Matthew Brezina

Matthew Brezina is the Founder and Community Organizer of Kid Safe SF, an advocacy organization focused on promoting safety in public spaces, particularly for children and families in San Francisco. He has been active in safe streets advocacy since 2016 and has played a significant role in campaigns to keep certain areas, like JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park, safe and accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.

Brezina's efforts with Kid Safe SF emerged in response to proposals to reopen JFK Drive to vehicle traffic, which he and other advocates argued would compromise the safety of children and families using the park. The organization has successfully mobilized public support, demonstrating a strong community backing for maintaining car-free spaces in the park.12

In addition to his work with Kid Safe SF, Brezina has a background in technology and investment, having co-founded People Protected, another initiative focused on urban safety, and he has experience as an angel investor.34 His educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in the same field.3

Brezina's activism is characterized by grassroots organizing, leveraging social media, and engaging the community to advocate for safer urban environments, reflecting a commitment to making public spaces more equitable and accessible for all residents of San Francisco.24
