Mary Ellen Burd is the Director of Strategic Communications at Penn Libraries, where she oversees all communications and public relations efforts to enhance the visibility of the library's services, resources, and collections. Her role is integral to supporting the strategic vision and programmatic priorities of the Penn Libraries.
Before joining Penn Libraries, Burd served as the director of communications for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, which is affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additionally, she directed communications at the Science History Institute, focusing on the history of chemistry and life sciences. Her career began in book publishing with editorial positions at Henry Holt and Columbia University Press.
Burd holds a master's degree in English and American literature from Brandeis University and a bachelor's degree in English and American literature and religion studies from Muhlenberg College.12
