Marshall Marcus is a prominent figure in the field of music education and orchestral leadership. He serves as a member of the Sistema Global Advisory Board and is the founder and president of Sistema Europe. Additionally, he holds the position of Executive and Artistic Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and is the CEO of the International Youth Foundation of Great Britain.
His extensive career includes founding Sistema Africa and the SERA (Sistema Evaluation and Research Archive), as well as co-founding the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He has been involved in various international projects aimed at developing youth orchestra networks and has worked with organizations such as the British Council and the Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar in Venezuela.
Marcus has a rich background as a violinist, performing and recording in over 60 countries. He has held significant roles in various orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Filarmonica de Caracas. His academic credentials include studying Philosophy and Experimental Psychology at The Queen’s College, Oxford, and postgraduate studies at Trinity College, Cambridge.
In recent years, he has focused on the intersection of culture and sustainable development, serving as the General Editor for a European Commission report on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals related to culture.123
