Markus Schale is a distinguished hospitality professional with a diverse background in luxury travel, hotel management, and entrepreneurship.
Having earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management from Ryerson University, Markus's career began in Canada, where he held several roles in renowned hotels, including the prestigious Sutton Place hotel in Toronto.
In 1997, Markus transitioned to the luxury travel sector, joining Horizon & Co. He rapidly climbed the ranks within the company, eventually becoming its President and CEO. During his leadership, Markus forged strategic partnerships with esteemed organizations like the World Wildlife Foundation, Harvard, and the Smithsonian Institute.
In 2008, Markus divested his interest in Horizon & Co and relocated to Maui, driven by his love for watersports, particularly kiteboarding. This passion led him to found the Kiteboarding School of Maui and co-establish the Virgin Maui Kitejam with Richard Branson.
Currently, Markus serves as the overseer of Hotel Wailea, a high-end boutique property spanning 15 acres with 72 suites. He is spearheading a significant multi-million dollar renovation project to elevate the resort's offerings, set to conclude soon.
Beyond Hotel Wailea, Markus has also taken on responsibilities at the Kaimana Beach Hotel in Oahu, focusing on enhancing its positioning as a premier beachfront boutique property in Waikiki.
