Mark Nolan is the Associate Vice President of Corporate Engagement at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He joined the university in January 2022 after a national search, as part of a larger effort to integrate Georgia Tech's corporate relations and industry collaboration units.13
In his role, Nolan leads the Office of Corporate Engagement, which serves as the nexus for the Institute's partner relationship and activity portfolios. He is tasked with facilitating collaboration across various partner units within Georgia Tech, including the Enterprise Innovation Institute, Technology Licensing, Economic Development, Institute Relations, and Corporate Contracting.1
Nolan comes to Georgia Tech with over 20 years of higher education expertise in economic development and corporate relations engagement. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he served as the Associate Vice President for Business Engagement and Strategy at Carnegie Mellon University from 2020 to 2022.2
At Carnegie Mellon, Nolan nearly doubled the university's industry sponsored research spending between 2016 and 2020. He also contributed to attaining total corporate investments of $134 million in fiscal year 2020, including sponsored research, gifts, educational project agreements, executive/customized education, IP licensing/technology fees, and leasing to corporate partners on campus.2
Before Carnegie Mellon, Nolan spent nearly 15 years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he held various roles in economic development and corporate relations, including Director of IT and Economic Development in the Office of Corporate Relations.2
Nolan is known for building and leading high-performance teams, driving economic development, new business development, and new program development. He has consistently succeeded in targeting, establishing, and furthering relationships between organizations, resulting in double-digit annual growth in research contracts, research expenditures, increased licensing, and other forms of revenue.2
