Mark Cartwright

Experienced Unix and RHEL Linux Engineer and Administrator

Mark Cartwright is an Assistant Professor of Informatics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) since January 2021. His research focuses on the intersection of human-computer interaction and machine learning, particularly in the areas of audio and music. Cartwright is involved in developing human-centered machine listening and audio processing tools that facilitate creative expression through sound.

He has been a key contributor to the Sounds of New York City (SONYC) project, which is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and aims to monitor and mitigate urban noise pollution using an advanced acoustic sensor network.

Cartwright holds a PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern University, where he also completed his undergraduate studies in Music Technology. He obtained a Master’s degree in Music Science and Technology from Stanford University. Before joining NJIT, he served as a research assistant professor at New York University, where he was affiliated with the Center for Urban Science and Progress and the Music and Audio Research Lab.12
