Mareena Snowden

Dr. Mareena Robinson Snowden is a senior engineer at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, specializing in nuclear security analysis.

She has a diverse background in nuclear weapons systems, nuclear crisis issues, and surface warfare technology.

Prior to her current role, Mareena was a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, focusing on nuclear arms control and nonproliferation.

She has also served as a National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Graduate Fellow, supporting major modernization programs and strategic materials access.

Dr. Robinson Snowden holds a PhD in Nuclear Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

Her research journey includes working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, MIT, and other prestigious institutions.

In 2017, she made history as the first black woman to earn a PhD in nuclear engineering from MIT, garnering media attention from MARVEL Comics, CNBC, BET, and other national outlets.

Mareena's educational background also includes studying at MAST Academy.

She is passionate about STEM education and has held various roles in research, communication coaching, and internships at esteemed organizations like MIT and Idaho National Laboratory.

Currently, Mareena Robinson Snowden continues to make significant contributions in the field of nuclear security analysis at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
