Lucy Sorensen

Lucy Sorensen is an Associate Professor of Public Administration and Policy at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, SUNY.134 She specializes in education policy, human development, social inequality, and applied econometrics.46 Sorensen received her Ph.D. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, with a concentration in Economics.2

Her research focuses on K-12 education policy, using applied econometrics to investigate various aspects of the field.5 Some of her notable work includes studies on teacher turnover, the effects of principal discipline on student outcomes, and the impact of lead exposure on academic achievement.1

Prior to her current position, Sorensen was an Assistant Professor at the same institution from 2016 to 2022.2 She has also been a Faculty Fellow at the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government.27
