Lucia Rollow
Founder/Director at Bushwick Community Darkroom
Lucia Rollow is an artist, educator, and community organizer known for founding the Bushwick Community Darkroom (BCD) in 2011. She was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and moved to New York City to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. After graduating, Rollow recognized the lack of accessible darkroom facilities for artists, which inspired her to create BCD. The darkroom has since evolved from a small basement space into a significant 4,000 square foot facility that supports over 50 members and offers various services, including film processing and workshops.1
Rollow completed her Master's in Arts and Cultural Management at Pratt Institute in 2015, further enhancing her skills in managing and promoting art spaces. She has been actively involved in the local arts community, notably through her leadership role in organizing the Bushwick Open Studios, an annual public art festival.1 Her work has been showcased in various exhibitions and has received recognition in publications such as Artnet and Hyperallergic.1
Through BCD, Rollow aims to make film photography more accessible and affordable, providing a platform for artists to develop their skills and showcase their work.1
