Lisa Nivison-Smith
Vision Science Researcher
Lisa Nivison-Smith is a senior researcher dedicated to leveraging new technologies for early detection of eye diseases, particularly macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness.
Aside from her research, Lisa is a fervent science communicator, actively engaging the public to raise awareness about STEM and advocating for women in science.
She holds a Bachelor of Science with a focus on molecular biology, a PhD in tissue engineering and cell biology from the University of Sydney, and has completed postdoctoral work at the University of New South Wales in retinal neurochemistry.
Lisa's areas of expertise span optometry, ophthalmology, vision science, and retinal diseases.
Currently, Lisa Nivison-Smith serves as a NHMRC Research Fellow and Senior Scientia Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Previously, she held various roles at UNSW, including NHMRC Research Fellow and Scientia Lecturer, Senior Research Associate, and Research Associate and Lecturer.
Her contributions also extend to serving as the Former Editor in Chief at the International Journal of Orientation and Mobility.
