Lisa Lazare is the Executive Director of Educators for Excellence in Massachusetts, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to her role in educational advocacy.13 Born in Trinidad, Lisa moved to Brentwood, New York at the age of nine, where she developed a deep appreciation for the value of education.1
Educational Background and Career
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science degree and an M.B.A. from Stony Brook University.12 After graduating, she began her career as a high school chemistry teacher, driven by her passion for STEM subjects and a desire to inspire more young women and people of color to pursue careers in these fields.1
Advocacy and Leadership
During her time as an educator, Lisa observed systemic issues in the representation of teachers of color, particularly in core and STEM subjects. This realization led her to found TRIBAL in Education (Teachers Resisting Inequity for Blacks, Asians, and LatinX in Education), a coalition advocating for the recruitment, retention, and agency of educators of color.1
In her current role as Executive Director at Educators for Excellence, Lisa continues her mission to positively impact communities of color in education.1 She is known for her approach of listening carefully to the needs of her community and understanding that good intentions don't always lead to the desired outcomes.1
