Lior Pachter
Bren Professor of Computational Biology at Caltech
Lior Pachter is the Bren Professor of Computational Biology at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).124 He is a computational biologist with a diverse background and research interests spanning mathematics, biology, and computer science.5
Born in Israel and raised in South Africa, Pachter completed his B.S. in Mathematics at Caltech in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT in 1999.53 He joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 1999, where he held various positions until 2017.3
Pachter's research focuses on developing computational and experimental methods for genomics, with a current emphasis on single-cell sequencing technologies.6 He has authored over 100 research articles in areas including algorithms, combinatorics, comparative genomics, algebraic statistics, molecular biology, and evolution.7
