Lee Miles

Lee Miles is an accomplished Australian and New Zealand registered patent attorney, recognized as a Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) Rising Star in 2018 and 2019.

Currently, a Senior Associate at FB Rice, Lee specializes in providing intellectual property services in the biotechnology and agribusiness sectors. With a strong scientific background in genetic and genomics, animal and plant breeding, RNAi-based technologies, gene therapy, diagnostics, vaccine development, immunology, and therapeutics, Lee brings a wealth of expertise to the Agtech sector.

Lee holds a PhD in Genetics from The University of Sydney, focusing on genetic linkage mapping and QTL analysis in saltwater crocodiles. Additionally, Lee has a BScAg (Hons) in Agricultural Science from the same university. Further supplementing academic achievements, Lee also completed a Master of Industrial Property (MIP) Law at the University of Technology Sydney.

Throughout career progression, Lee has held various roles at FB Rice, transitioning from Trainee Patent Attorney to Patent Attorney, then to Associate, and currently as a Senior Associate. In previous engagements, Lee served as a Technical Specialist at Sigma Aldrich, a Research Associate at the University of Sydney, and as an Honorary Fellow at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Veterinary Science.

With a diverse client portfolio spanning start-ups, universities, research institutes, and multinational corporations, Lee has cultivated a reputation for providing tailored and commercially-focused IP strategies. Expertise includes patent filing strategies, patent portfolio management, patent oppositions, extension of patent terms, plant breeder's rights applications, and advising on various IP matters.
