Larry Witzling

Larry Witzling is a highly accomplished urban design and planning professional with over 40 years of experience in the field.

Currently serving as a Principal at GRAEF, a prominent national engineering and planning firm based in Milwaukee.

He is the author of the insightful 'Cityland Essays' available on www.larrywitzling.com, where he shares his extensive knowledge gained through years of practice, teaching, and observations.

In 2017, Larry was honored as the American Planning Association's Planning Pioneer of the Year, a testament to his significant contributions to the industry.

His exceptional professional journey has been acclaimed by prestigious organizations such as Progressive Architecture, the American Institute of Architects, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and the American Planning Association, alongside various local, state, and regional bodies.

Before his role at GRAEF, Larry founded and led the Planning & Design Institute, Inc. (PDI) and collaborated with Jeffrey Ollswang in Design Competition Services, overseeing multiple national and international design competitions.

As a Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Larry has nurtured numerous generations of planners and designers since 1972, leaving a lasting impact on the academic landscape.

Larry Witzling holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
