Early Life and Education

Belson was born into a family connected to the entertainment industry; her father, Jerry Belson, was a comedy writer, and her mother was a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. She graduated from Trinity College in 1986.

Career at DreamWorks Animation

Belson joined DreamWorks Animation in 2005 as head of development, where she oversaw the development and acquisition of feature film projects. Notably, she served as an executive producer for the Academy Award-nominated films How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and The Croods (2013), the latter earning her a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
