    Ken Cordier is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel who served from 1961 to 1985.4 He was born on February 16, 1937, in Canton, Ohio.2 Cordier was an F-4 Phantom II fighter pilot who flew combat missions in Vietnam.1 On December 2, 1966, during his 176th combat mission, his aircraft was shot down over North Vietnam, and he was captured.2 Cordier spent 2,284 days (over six years) as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam before being released on March 4, 1973, during Operation Homecoming.21

    After his release and recovery, Cordier continued his Air Force career, serving in various positions including as Air Attaché to the United Kingdom from 1982 until his retirement in 1985.2 Throughout his service, he accumulated over 2,000 flying hours in fighter aircraft.2

    Following his military career, Cordier became an inspirational speaker, sharing his experiences as a POW and the lessons he learned.3 He was also involved in veterans' organizations, serving as president of NAM-POWs and the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association.2

    Cordier passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 87.12 He was buried at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors.56
