Kay Firth-Butterfield

Kay Firth-Butterfield is a highly respected international figure and leading expert in the field of AI governance. With advanced degrees in Law and International Relations, Kay has a distinguished career as a Barrister, former Judge, and Professor. She is the Head of AI and Machine Learning at the World Economic Forum and a member of its Executive Committee. Kay co-founded AI Global, and in 2014, she became the world's first Chief AI Ethics Officer, creating the AIEthics twitter hashtag. Kay helped create the Asilomar AI Ethical Principles and is Vice-Chair of The IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in AI and Autonomous Systems. She serves on the Lord Chief Justice's Advisory Panel and the Polaris Council for the Government Accountability Office (USA), among others. Kay is a regular international speaker, addressing issues relating to beneficial and challenging technical, economic, and social changes from the use of AI. Named one of 10 Women Changing the Landscape of Leadership by The New York Times in 2021, Kay is consistently recognized as a leading woman in AI since 2018.
