Katleen Robert
PhD Seafloor and Habitat Mapping
Katleen Robert is a dedicated marine ecologist specializing in mapping seafloor habitats using cutting-edge technology and imagery techniques. Her research focuses on establishing species-environment relationships through benthic surveys and predictive mapping.
With a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Deep-sea marine ecology from the University of Southampton, a Master of Science (MS) in Marine Ecology from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Wildlife Biology from McGill University - Macdonald Campus, Katleen has a solid educational background in the field of marine science.
Her work includes utilizing benthic imagery, sidescan backscatter, and multibeam bathymetry to create comprehensive predictive maps of seafloor habitats. She is also exploring the use of high-resolution 3D point clouds and photogrammetry reconstructions to enhance the information extracted from benthic surveys as part of the CODEMAP project.
Throughout her career, Katleen Robert has held various positions, including Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at the National Oceanography Centre, Demonstrator at the University of Southampton, and roles as a PhD and MSc student at the University of Southampton and University of Victoria, respectively. She has also served as a Laboratory Instructor at the University of Victoria.
Katleen's expertise lies in marine ecology, seafloor habitat mapping, benthic surveys, predictive mapping, species-environment relationships, high-resolution imaging techniques, 3D point clouds, and photogrammetry. Her contributions to the field have advanced our understanding of deep-sea ecosystems and habitat mapping methods.
