Because of the critical role retirement security plays in building a strong middle class, Governor O’Malley established the Governor’s Task Force to Ensure Retirement Security for All Marylanders. The Task Force will examine how Maryland can improve retirement security for private-sector employees, and it will recommend concrete steps that the State can take to ensure the opportunity for a secure retirement for every private-sector employee in Maryland.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will chair the Task Force and head up a diverse group of business, labor, retiree, and other stakeholders to safeguard Marylanders’ economic security by finding innovative solutions to help Marylanders prepare for a secure retirement.

Task Force to Ensure Retirement Security for All Marylanders

This Center will provide research and support in the efforts to improve retirement income security. It will help states and localities find ways to expand options for individuals in an efficient and cost effective manner, utilizing pooled, professional management, and, where appropriate, leveraging the expertise and resources of public pension plans. 

The Center both studies and facilitates efforts to expand retirement options. And it will help states implement savings programs by:  

1) compiling existing research on the most effective retirement options
2) conducting original research
3) developing methods to facilitate public debate, including analysis of messaging and conducting polls and focus groups
4) becoming a resource for information
5) outreach through participation in conferences, hearings, papers, press, and the channels of social media.
