Karen Hallion, an accomplished artist and illustrator, hails from Nahant, Massachusetts, a quaint town just north of Boston.
She graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the prestigious Ringling School of Art and Design. Initially, Karen shared her passion for art with young minds as an elementary school art teacher until 2009, when she decided to pursue a full-time career as a freelance artist.
Karen Hallion's remarkable portfolio includes collaborations with renowned clients such as Marvel, LucasFilm, Cartoon Network, DreamWorks Studios, and Disney, among others. She has lent her artistic talents to projects like variant covers for Titan Comics and IDW, as well as being featured in the 2015 ImagineFX "The Art of Film - Star Wars".
In addition to her professional contributions, Karen designed the successful "Wizard School" card game in partnership with DFTBA Games and Hank Green, which raised over $450,000 on Kickstarter. She also crowdfunded more than $70,000 in 2017 for her original character, Celara, through a 13-month calendar project.
Karen Hallion's involvement extends to the literary world, where she acted as a contributing artist for books like "Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy" by Amy Ratcliffe. Her creative influence has graced the exclusive covers of the Star Wars Celebration edition of Star Wars Insider Magazine.
A sought-after panelist, Karen has participated in various events for Threadless, Nerd for A Living, and Tee Fury. Notably, she was a special guest alongside John Green at the 2016 NerdCon for the podcast 'Dear Hank and John'. Her art has been showcased in prestigious exhibitions like the Star Wars Celebration Art Shows and events like VidCon, NerdCon, and Awesome Con.
Apart from her illustrious career, Karen Hallion is also a published author, having penned and illustrated her first children's book titled "Never, Never Quit". She successfully crowdfunded the book in early 2020, raising $76,000 on Kickstarter and an additional $25,000 in pre-sales throughout the year.
Currently residing in Swampscott, Massachusetts, Karen shares her home with her husband Brandon and their two sons.
