Kai-Fu Lee

Education and Early Career

Lee graduated from Columbia University summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1983. He then earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1988, where he also served as an assistant professor. During his time at Carnegie Mellon, he developed the world's first speaker-independent continuous speech recognition system, which was recognized as a major innovation in 1988.16
