Early Life and Modeling Career
Josie Maran was born Johanna Selhorst Maran on May 8, 1978 in Menlo Park, California.1 She was discovered by a modeling agent at a local restaurant when she was just 12 years old and began working as a model in her spare time.2
After graduating high school at age 17, Maran signed with Elite Model Management in Los Angeles.12 She quickly rose to fame, appearing on her first cover with Glamour magazine in 1998.1 Maran was the featured Guess? Girl in their summer and fall 1998 campaigns.1 She also landed a multi-year deal with Maybelline in 1999.1
Maran appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for three consecutive years from 2000-2002.1 In 2005, she appeared in the video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted as the character Mia Townsend.1
Acting Career
In addition to modeling, Maran pursued acting, appearing in several films including The Mallory Effect (2002), Van Helsing (2004), and The Gravedancers (2006).1 She also competed on the 7th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2007.1
Josie Maran Cosmetics
In 2007, Maran launched her own natural cosmetics line called Josie Maran Cosmetics.1 The company's main ingredient is fair trade argan oil harvested by women's co-ops in Morocco.1
Personal Life
Maran has two daughters, Rumi Joon (born 2006) and Indi Joon (born 2012), with her ex-partner Ali Alborzi.1 She married David Belle in 2018.1
