Jose Andres

José Andrés is a renowned Spanish chef, restaurateur, and humanitarian, best known for his role as the founder and executive chairman of José Andrés Group, formerly known as ThinkFoodGroup. Born on July 13, 1969, in Mieres, Asturias, Spain, he began his culinary journey at the age of 15 in Barcelona and later trained at the prestigious El Bulli under chef Ferran Adrià. Andrés moved to the United States in 1991, where he gained fame for introducing Spanish cuisine and the small plates dining concept to American audiences through his acclaimed restaurants such as Jaleo, Zaytinya, and minibar by José Andrés.14
Throughout his career, Andrés has received numerous accolades, including a National Humanities Medal in 2015 for his humanitarian efforts through his non-profit organization World Central Kitchen, which provides meals in disaster-stricken areas. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize twice for his work in combating hunger globally.24 In addition to his culinary achievements, he is a media personality with several cookbooks and television appearances to his credit, including hosting the PBS series Made in Spain.
Recently, Andrés stepped down from his role as CEO of José Andrés Group but continues to be actively involved as the creative force behind the organization. The group operates over 40 restaurants across various locations, focusing on diverse culinary experiences while maintaining a mission to change the world through food.23 His dedication to philanthropy and culinary innovation has made him a prominent figure in both the restaurant industry and humanitarian efforts.
