Jordan MacKenzie
Founder and CTO at Bioform
Jordan MacKenzie is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and co-founder of Bioform Technologies, a Vancouver-based startup focused on developing sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. He has played a pivotal role in the company's innovation, particularly in creating a patented process that utilizes wood pulp and kelp to produce biodegradable plastics. This technology not only aims to replace fossil fuel-based plastics but also significantly reduces carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional plastics.134
MacKenzie developed this technology during his tenure as a postdoctoral fellow and research associate at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he collaborated with Mark Martinez, another co-founder of Bioform. Their work has led to the creation of materials that can be used in various applications, including packaging and agricultural products, while being compostable and recyclable.234
Under his leadership, Bioform Technologies has secured significant funding, including a recent $5 million investment from Suzano Ventures, which will help accelerate the development and commercialization of their bioplastic products.134 The company aims to begin commercial production by 2027 and has already demonstrated its products' effectiveness in real-world applications, such as biodegradable mulch films for agriculture.24
