Jonathan Grant

Director at Different Angles

Jonathan Grant is the founding Director of Different Angles Ltd, a consultancy with a focus on the social impact of universities and research. His expertise lies in biomedical and health R&D policy, research impact assessment, evidence-based policy making, and the evolving role of universities in the modern era. Jonathan has extensive international experience, contributing to R&D strategies in various countries including the UK, Greece, Norway, Qatar, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Australia, Canada, and the USA.

At King's College London, Jonathan held multiple significant roles. He established the Policy Institute at King's as a professor of public policy in 2014. Subsequently, he served as its Director until 2017 when he pivoted to leading the development of King's strategic vision 2029. Later, Jonathan assumed the position of Vice President & Vice Principal (Service) at the institution, focusing on social responsibility initiatives such as research impact, service-led learning, and sustainability.

Jonathan also contributes his expertise to various organizations. He serves as a senior advisor at Researchfish, a platform tracking research impact, a Research Fellow at RAND Europe, a prominent public policy think tank, and an associate of the Nous Group, a global management consultancy. Additionally, he holds a Trustee position at the Association of Medical Research Charities.

Before his tenure at King's College London, Jonathan Grant was the President of RAND Europe where he significantly expanded the organization's presence in Europe. He spearheaded the establishment of the Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. Prior to that, he held the position of Head of Policy at the prestigious Wellcome Trust.

Jonathan's academic background includes a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine at King's College London, University of London, and a B.Sc in Economics with a focus on Demography from the London School of Economics and Political Science. In March 2021, he published a book titled 'The New Power University: The Social Purpose of Higher Education in the 21st Century' through Pearson.
