Jim Grossman served as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of the Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) from 2013 until his retirement in 2022.13 He had been an integral part of PSERS' Investment Office for over 24 years, joining the organization in 1997.12
During Grossman's tenure as CIO, PSERS' total net assets grew from $49 billion to $72 billion.1 He was responsible for managing and administering the investment program, advising the board on asset allocation policy, and leading the investment office.1
Prior to becoming CIO, Grossman held various roles at PSERS, including managing director of external public markets, compliance officer, and risk manager.2 Before joining PSERS, he worked as a senior manager at KPMG US for nearly 8 years.2
Grossman holds a B.S. in accounting from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and is a CFA Charterholder and Certified Public Accountant.2 His leadership was particularly important as PSERS recovered from the Great Financial Crisis and worked to improve its funding status.1
In November 2021, Grossman announced his plans to retire. He transitioned to the role of senior advisor on December 9, 2021, to assist with the transition to a new CIO until his official retirement on May 1, 2022.34
