Young Americans for Liberty at LCC (formerly LCC Students for Liberty) is dedicated to spreading the ideals of individual rights, personal responsibility, limited government and a voluntary society guided by reason, freedom, tolerance and compassion. Our guiding principle: You have the right to do as you please so long as you aren't interfering with others' right to do the same.

Government's maximal role should be to protect life, liberty and property: the police to protect people from crime, the military to guard against foreign invasion, courts of last resort for peacefully arbitrating disputes, protection of the shared natural environment in which we all must live and perhaps some basic infrastructure. Beyond that it should leave people responsible for their own choices, whether business, financial, medical, religious, moral or recreational. This view is sometimes expressed as being economically conservative and socially liberal and would include those who identify as libertarians, classical liberals, minarchists, objectivists or Constitutional conservatives. The group also includes anarcho-capitalists, agorists and voluntaryists who believe in a completely voluntary society as an ideal but are happy to work towards more freedom and less government with other liberty-minded people.

Although we are a diverse group of independent thinkers, unifies us is a belief in the moral right of the individual to make her own decisions. We also believe that the worthwhile goals of progressives can be best accomplished in ways other than the violence or implicit threat of violence that underlies all State action. Free choice and voluntary cooperation always create better outcomes than coercive government control, even when backed by majority vote. As a group dedicated to individual rights and tolerance of difference, we oppose all forms of arbitrary group discrimination, such as racism or sexism. Everyone is welcome.
