Jay Dessy is the Vice President, Commercial at Graphyte, a carbon removal company backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and other leading clean energy investors.145 Prior to this role, Jay held various positions at Breakthrough Energy, Gates Ventures, Deloitte Consulting, Bloomberg LP, and The White House.1

Jay is a Princeton University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Geoscience and has a strong background in business development, consulting, and sustainable finance.15 He has over 9.5 years of experience in the Federal Strategy and Operations practice.3

As Vice President, Commercial at Graphyte, Jay is working on permanent carbon removal solutions.5 Graphyte has developed a technology called Carbon Casting that leverages biomass residues to efficiently remove CO2 from the carbon cycle.2 The company's first project in Pine Bluff, Arkansas is currently operational and will remove 50,000 tCO2e per year starting in 2025.2

Jay has been actively engaging with the USDA on the Greenhouse Gas Technical Assistance Provider and Third-Party Verifier Program, providing recommendations on key definitions, metrics, and protocols for the carbon removal space.2
