Jarod Apperson is an accomplished economist with an impressive educational background and diverse professional experience. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Spelman College, where he teaches a range of economics courses to undergraduate students.
Jarod's research focuses on several key areas, including the economics of education, school choice, peer effects, and the impact of home life on academic performance. He has also conducted research on the unintended consequences of high-stakes testing, faculty training, and obesity's relationship to healthcare expenditures.
In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Jarod has a wealth of professional experience in finance, accounting, and consulting. Before becoming an economist, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Atlanta and London for a financial consulting firm. He has also served as a Supervisor at RGL Forensics and as a Staff Accountant at Ohio Gratings Inc.
As a consultant, Jarod has worked with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies on strategic management, software development, data visualization, and financial advisory services. He has also helped guide students conducting their own economic research using causal methods.
Jarod earned a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting from NYU Stern School of Business and a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgia State University. He is a former Second Century Initiative Fellow for Tim R. Sass at Georgia State University.
