Jared Bielby

Jared Bielby is an accomplished Information Ethicist with nearly a decade of experience in consulting and advising stakeholders on ethics best practices in technology, information, and data use. Bielby has led business leaders, industry experts, government officials, and academics on ethics in data use, technology policy, information ethics, and ethics for artificial intelligence, and has spoken at both the World Internet Conference and the World Government Summit. Bielby is currently the Data & Analytics Ethics Advisor for the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he manages international teams on the creation of ethics standards and methodologies.

Bielby chairs two leading international groups involved in technology and information ethics research, including the committee on Classical Ethics for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (IEEE) and the International Center for Information Ethics (KIAS, University of Alberta). He is also on the Board of Directors of the Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA), where he provides insight into digital ethics in law.

Bielby has authored and edited reports, presentations, and articles in the field of Information Ethics and has published extensively with McFarland & Company Inc., Springer, Confluence: Online Journal of World Philosophies, and IEEE. He is the co-editor of the Festschrift: Information Cultures in the Digital Age, published by Springer VS, and has given numerous speaking engagements on the subjects of Information Ethics, AI Ethics, Internet Governance, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Citizenship.
