    Jane Madgwick is a passionate advocate for nature conservation, with a focus on wetlands as crucial ecosystems that demand urgent attention.

    Since 2004, she has held the role of CEO at Wetlands International, overseeing a global network of 20 offices in more than 100 countries, with a primary emphasis on rivers, lakes, peatlands, deltas, and coasts in the developing world.

    At Wetlands International, Jane leads efforts to build knowledge and drive action to protect and restore wetlands for the benefit of biodiversity conservation, water security, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and livelihood improvement.

    Through collaborations with various stakeholders such as governments, companies, research institutions, and civil society organizations, Wetlands International under Jane's leadership facilitates transformative change on a landscape scale.

    She actively forges partnerships and fosters global dialogues to promote ecosystem-based solutions that address water-related risks while enhancing both ecological and social resilience in areas where wetlands play a critical role for people and nature.

    Prior to her tenure at Wetlands International, Jane Madgwick spent seven years working on freshwater and wetlands issues for WWF across Europe, Australia, and globally, as well as a decade as the Conservation Director of The Broads, a multiple-use wetland area in the UK.

    Her earlier experience includes ecological research assignments in diverse locations such as Somalia, Belize, Yemen, and Australia, honing her expertise in wetland ecological restoration and water resource management policies.

    Jane Madgwick's academic background comprises a BSc in Human and Environmental Biology and an MSc in Conservation, obtained from the University of York and University College London respectively.
