James Bundy
James Bundy is the Elizabeth Parker Ware Dean of the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University and the Artistic Director of Yale Repertory Theatre. He has held these positions since 2002.12345
Early Life and Education
Bundy was born in Boston in 1959. He attended Groton School and received his AB in English and American Literature from Harvard College in 1981. He studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art from 1981-1984, and received his MFA in directing from Yale School of Drama in 1995.1
Career
Prior to his current roles, Bundy worked professionally as an actor from 1984-1989, appearing in productions at various theaters.1 From 1989-1991, he was the Managing Director of Cornerstone Theatre Company.1 He served as Associate Producing Director of The Acting Company in New York City from 1996-1998 and Artistic Director of Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Ohio from 1998-2002.167
As Dean/Artistic Director, Bundy has directed numerous productions at Yale Rep, including Assassins, Happy Days, Arcadia, Hamlet, A Delicate Balance, Death of a Salesman, A Woman of No Importance, All's Well That Ends Well, The Ladies of the Camellias, and The Psychic Lives of Savages.1
Awards and Honors
Bundy has received several awards and honors, including a Tony Award nomination for Best Play for Indecent in 2017, the National Theater Conference Outstanding Theater Award for Yale Repertory Theatre in 2014, and the Tom Killen Award from the Connecticut Critics Circle in 2007.1
