Public Realm Director at City of Boston
Jacob Wessel is an accomplished public servant, social activist, and political strategist who has dedicated his career to making Boston a better place to live. He studied Political Science and Government at Tufts University and received a well-rounded education at Crossroads School.
During his tenure at the City of Boston, Jacob has served in many pivotal roles that allowed him to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. As the Public Realm Director, he is responsible for improving the safety, accessibility, and aesthetics of public spaces such as parks, open spaces, and street corridors. In his previous role as the Director of City Hall to Go, he spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative that took essential city services to residents in underserved neighborhoods.
Before joining the city government, Jacob worked as a Research Director at the Massachusetts Democratic Party and as a Field Organizer for the Ed Markey for US Senate campaign. He is also a former campus coordinator for the same campaign, where he mobilized young voters and built a formidable grassroots network.
Jacob is passionate about social justice, environmental sustainability, and civic engagement. He leverages his expertise and skills to bring positive change to the communities he serves. He is a former Democracy Coach at Generation Citizen and a Social Action Intern at Participant Media, where he learned the art of public storytelling.
