Talking about money in any situation can be a hard topic, especially for women and creative business owners. There is so much language that is used that is inaccessible unless you went to business or accounting school. The system has been designed this way, and I want to change that.

My relationship with money changed dramatically for the better when I discovered a personal budgeting tool called YNAB. I learned that I'm in control of my money and that with a little effort and delayed gratification I can achieve my financial goals.

As a result, I love diving into the numbers, cleaning up messes and building budgets. I meet my clients where they are at and translate inaccessible financial language into business owners' language. Every money situation business owners experience is a "normal" situation - running out of money, paying for expenses on a personal credit card or getting behind on paying taxes to the CRA. All the business owners I've ever spoken to, myself included, have experienced something like this. 

I love the clarity that comes from knowing “the numbers” and zoom out to look at the whole picture in order to devise strategies to move forward efficiently. 

I teach about and provide custom support to build a business' financial roadmap so that business owners feel empowered and in-control of their business money.

THNK School of Creative Leadership

Host | Event Manager | In-House Holistic Nutritionist for The Home

With THNK School of Creative Leadership, I was the hub for Class Three of THNK's own 6-month Creative Leadership Program along with several client-sponsored Leadership and Innovation programs, ensuring THNK's faculty, clients and participants had everything they needed to be successful. I liaised with THNK's internal marketing and operations teams to deliver content for marketing efforts and logistics coordination.

Creative Leadership program management by the numbers:
- oversaw planning and delivery of Class Three's 30 days of programming delivered in four, 7-8 day modules which also included two instances of THNK's local alumni conference, GTHR January 2016 and June 2016, 3 days each of multi-layered programming 
- built and managed 6-figure expense budget, coming in 3.8% under budget (my colleagues dubbed me the "Human Calculator")
- managed internal communications between 5 core faculty members and up to 6 ancillary faculty members to ensure timely development and delivery of curriculum
- liaised with 3 internal THNK team members to deliver info for marketing content and logistics coordination
- liaised with 23 mid- to late-career participants during and in-between modules
- revised menu design for third and fourth modules, to ensure the 48 meals and 32 snacks delivered over those 16 days of programming supported and energized 23 participants plus 5 core faculty to fully participate and be able to do their best work

This course looks like a public speaking and presentation skills workshop on the surface, and the methods to deliver this theory are through storytelling and Circle Process. 

As a class, we set our code of conduct on the first day, determining what each person needs to have our time together feel safe. This allows everyone to show up fully to face their fear of public speaking, a fear that is higher than the fear of death for most people.

Throughout the course, I use a number of activities that help my students drill down into what they're actually passionate about, where they're holding themselves back, and how they might like to utilize their passion in the future. 

By the end of the course, students have gone through an experience where they have permission to just be. They support their classmates, and leave with confidence in what they want to do in the world and why they are the right people to be doing it.

With up to 250 people coming through the doors each day, my role at the front desk was to build and maintain relationships with each and every student who walked in.

I did this through face-to-face interactions while checking students into classes and checking in about what was going on in their lives. The other main touchpoints I interacted and built engagement through were the studio's social media feeds, where questions, concerns, and comments would come through, and the monthly newsletter, which I edited and wrote articles for.

I empowered clients to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands starting with good food -- delicious, healthy, home-cooked, organic, good-for-the-soul food.

I provided personal chef services for a handful of clients, including all the meal planning, grocery shopping, and prep work, helping make healthy living that much easier for them.

Culinary Nutritionist & Chef

Interior design lays the foundation for everything that I do. As a designer, I interviewed and gathered information from my clients, their employees and other user groups to determine what kind of floorplan, furniture, esthetic and flow suited their needs.

I acted as a liaison between client, contractor, engineer, and other consultants to ensure that everyone had the information they needed to act. I also observed how people interacted with the spaces they worked, entertained and lived in, gaining great insights into the psychology of space.
