Irena Bojanova

Dr. Irena Bojanova is a distinguished Computer Scientist currently serving at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the USA. She has held various key positions in the IEEE community including Editor in Chief of IEEE IT Professional from 2018 to 2020 and Associate Editor in Chief of the same publication. She has extensive editorial experience, having worked on multiple prestigious journals such as IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing and International Journal of Big Data Intelligence. Dr. Bojanova is a Founding Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Cloud Computing STC and has been actively involved in the IEEE Reliability Society Internet of Things Technical Committee and the Technical Subcommittee on Big Data.

Apart from her editorial roles, Dr. Bojanova has also been instrumental in organizing and chairing numerous symposiums and conferences within the IT space. She has served as a General Chair for events like ITiP symposium at IEEE COMPSAC, STC, QRS, ISSRE, and the IT Professional Conference, showcasing her leadership and organizational skills. Additionally, she has co-edited the 'Encyclopedia of Cloud Computing' published by Wiley in 2016 and is a dedicated blogger on A Cloud Blog & Sensing IoT Blog on IEEE Computing Now.

In terms of education, Dr. Bojanova has a strong academic background with a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She also holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. Furthermore, she has undertaken Leadership Development studies at the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Dr. Bojanova's professional journey includes a plethora of roles across various esteemed organizations. She has served in different capacity at the IEEE Computer Society, ranging from being a Member at Large to Integrity Chair on the Publications Board. Her tenure at NIST as a Computer Scientist and Guest Researcher has further honed her expertise in the field. Prior to her current roles, she has held academic positions at institutions like UMUC and JHU, with a focus on teaching, program coordination, and academic leadership.

In the industry, Dr. Bojanova has valuable experience having led departments and projects at organizations like Mobis and OBS (now CSC) in Bulgaria. She was also a Co-Founder and Managing Director at PIsoft Ltd., showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit. Her early career involved academic pursuits and research roles at esteemed institutions such as the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Central Laboratory for Parallel Processing. Dr. Bojanova's diverse experience spans academia, industry, and research, making her a multifaceted professional in the field of Computer Science.
