    Idoia Ochoa-Alvarez is a Ph.D. student in the Electrical Engineering department at Stanford University, under the guidance of Prof. Tsachy Weissman. She received her MSc from the same department in 2012. Prior to Stanford, she completed her BS and MSc in Telecommunications Engineering at TECNUN in Donostia, Spain, with a 6-month Erasmus program stint at Lulea Tekniska Universitet in Sweden. She previously worked as a researcher at CEIT in Donostia within the group INTECOM.

    Her research interests encompass information theory, genetics, compression, coding, communications, and signal processing. Idoia's focus lies in aiding the bio community in managing the vast volumes of genomic data through the development of advanced compression programs for genomic data.

    Idoia's educational background includes a Bachelor's in Electronics Engineering from Luleå University Of Technology, a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor's in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University Of Navarra.

    She has held various roles in different organizations including being a former Ph.D. student, Intern at Genapsys, Inc., Technical Consultant at Brown Hill Productions, Intern at Google, Teaching Assistant, and Researcher at Ceit.

    Idoia's studies have been supported by a Basque Government Fellowship, a Stanford Graduate Fellowship, and a La Caixa Graduate Fellowship.
