Lina Karam is a prominent figure in the fields of electrical and computer engineering, currently serving as the Chief Technical Advisor at AIAEC LLC. She is also an Emerita Professor at Arizona State University (ASU), where she has had a significant impact on research and education in image and video processing, computer vision, and machine learning.
Education and Academic Career
Dr. Karam earned her MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992 and 1995, respectively. She has held various academic positions at ASU, including Professor and Chair of the Computer Engineering Program. Karam has directed the Image, Video, and Usability (IVU) Laboratory at ASU and has supervised numerous graduate students, contributing to the development of transdisciplinary programs in robotics and autonomous systems.
Professional Achievements
Karam is an IEEE Fellow and has received multiple awards, including the Intel Outstanding Researcher in High Volume Manufacturing Award and a NASA Technical Innovation Award. Her research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including signal processing, image/video compression, and perceptual-based processing.
