WORK places the poor in low-income communities into good, dignified jobs. The WORK team believes that solving the climate and waste crises depends on solving global inequity and indignity in employment. They develop and deliver the wraparound services necessary to create the conditions for families to pull themselves out of poverty. They specialize in working with residents (with a focus on children) that work in and around landfills. To date, WORK's data-based on-the-ground programming has engaged over 1000 people, with a focus on waste collectors & children that live in landfill communities, with health care, educational, financial, housing, & job and education placement services. They've placed at least one head of household into a job for 86% of cohort families, ensured 100% of families have adequate access to medical care, and 100% of kids in school or school programs. The WORK team specializes in working in “red zone” communities with exceptionally high rates of poverty (median income $28/month before WORK interventions) and child labor.  

WORK also founded the Run Across Haiti, a 200-mile adventure race across Haiti from north to south that has raised over $1MM to date. RAH has engaged thousands of people in the fight against poverty and has been featured by Outside Magazine and in a documentary by The North Face.

Developed a variety of partnerships with global NGOs/civil service organizations and the public sector to coordinate response to a variety of natural disasters, sustainability, and development scenarios.  

Invited by President Clinton to be a featured speaker in the CGI Action Network for Post Disaster Recovery for both Haiti and Puerto Rico.

Coordinated field response as one of the first organizations to deploy local field staff to reach the disaster area, assess casualties and damages, coordinate food deliveries in partnership with World Central Kitchen, and coordinate an airlift to organize, collect, and deliver over 10,000 lbs of medical supplies to clinics and hospitals immediately following the 2021 Haitian Earthquake.
