He is a career civil servant at the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport where he focuses on improving healthcare through effective information management.

With over 10 years of experience as an e-government consultant at ICTU, Herko has worked on various projects related to information services, web accessibility, open data, change management, program management, information security, government information architecture, and registries.

Herko Coomans holds multiple certifications in programme management and has undertaken various courses in fields like health innovation, information security, communication, and urban planning.

He has been actively involved in organizations such as the Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport, AHIMA International, Ynnovate, and ICTU, where he held different roles ranging from international digital health coordinator to business information consultant healthcare and lead organizer.
