H. Scholten, also known as Hanneke Scholten, is an assistant professor at the University of Twente's Technology, Human and Institutional Behavior Group and the co-director of the Games for Emotional and Mental Health (GEMH) lab.
Having obtained her Bachelor's in Pedagogy and Educational Sciences and a Research Master's in Behavioral Science with honors from Radboud University, Hanneke continued her academic journey by completing her PhD project at the Developmental Psychopathology program of Radboud University with cum laude honors in January 2020. This project focused on designing and testing a game aimed at helping youth quit smoking, utilizing various methods like participatory design, text-based analyses, and EEG.
During her time as a postdoctoral researcher at the GEMH lab, Hanneke concentrated on enhancing youths' emotional and mental health through technological interventions. In her current role at the University of Twente, she is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary partnerships to create digital experiences that are meaningful to young individuals and enhance their well-being. Her ultimate goal is to implement scientifically validated solutions in the real world to positively impact a wide range of youth.
Passionate about the influence of interactive media on emotional and mental health, Hanneke actively promotes this cause, showcasing her research in international journals and delivering over 50 presentations and workshops on the subject to various audiences, including the scientific community, parents, youths, educators, designers, and psychologists.
